Life is like a piece of cake...

The last time I enjoyed a scrumptious dessert was with a friend. I never really enjoyed desserts after meals. They make my tummy crumble as if I wanna live inside the comfort room for a whole day. But since we were looking for a feel-good-food, and feeling better is what we were aiming that day, I decided to try one with her.

Last night I purchased a chocolate cake from Cheesecake etc. They were offering 20% off and I was envious of Glay for buying one, so I asked Jayne, Yen and Liz to come with me and give in to our sweet tooth. While eating it, I remembered the last dessert I ate. And it was with Wheng.

Now I know that Life is indeed like a piece of cake. You can only have enough, not too much. Or you'll end up throwing up everything you ate; maybe have an angry stomach or something.

I'm not sure if I can still continue posting food reviews here, but I'll try my best. It feels like I lost a leg; perhaps a hand or even an eye. Losing friends is one of the things I hate the most. I just hope the reason is worth it. I just hope she'll be happy with it.

Ciao!

La Mesa

I made a deal with my former supervisor who became one my closest friend, Toby that I will treat him to lunch or dinner when I get my 1st pay from my new company. So, when I got my pay, I immediately called him and arranged a dinner with him. Before we went to dinner, I asked him if I can go to Fitness First as his guest. I really wanted to try Body Jam because he said that it is a combination of exercise and dance. I’m into exercising and not a good dancer but I have a good rhythm.

I went online few hours before meeting him and my friend, Marcie chatted with me through Facebook and asked if I will go to dinner with Toby., I said yes and then she asked if she can go with us. (By the way, Toby is also her former supervisor.)

While waiting for the Body Jam session, I received a text from Marcie saying that Marla will also join us. What should have been a dinner for two turned out to be a dinner for four. Whew! But it was a very nice change because I got to see 2 of my close friends. I haven’t seen them in almost 4 months, which is long, considering that I used to be with them almost everyday.

So I had my Body Jam session with Toby which is really tiring but very enjoyable, then went to shower room. I was just waiting for Toby to come out from his very long shower session (hehehe!) when I received a text from Marcie that she is already in Megamall. I went out of Fitness First to meet Marcie. We were supposed to eat at Brothers’ Burger but Marcie said she wanted to a try a different place. I’m not that picky when it comes to restaurants or any eating place so I agreed. This place turned out to be Mesa, Filipino Moderne. We then texted Toby and Marla to follow us to Mesa. Marla on the other hand, was quite late because there was a political parade on her way to Megamall.

As we entered Mesa, Filipino Moderne, I was impressed by the design of their restaurant. The design of the place is not like any other restaurants. It was indeed a Filipino modern design as they used bamboo as their main material which has a feel of Filipino culture.

As we are waiting for Toby and Marla to arrive, Marcie and I made our plan of attack J . We took the liberty to order food. We chose, Crispy Baby Squid, Pork Barbeque and 4 cups of rice. They served the food fast and food was really delicious. The Crispy Baby Squid was indeed crispy and perfect. Pork Barbeque is also delicious but the serving is too small. The serving is too small that we ended up ordering another food, Mixed Vegetables delicious but you can get the same taste at different restaurants with lesser price and more servings. As I said food are delicious but they have a small serving.

I'm looking forward to my next food adventure.

Happy eating everyone!

Thai shall be done

It was shopping day for us last March 13. While I was fretting how to "properly" allocate my salary, Wheng (as usual) already fixed her allowance and shopping budget. I gotta hand it to her, she really is an expert when it comes to budgeting. Wish I could have that sort of talent.

After work, we had breakfast at KFC Eastwwod, Libis with friends. Gravy was overflowing (talking bout calories). We left for Tutuban round 7am with Glay, one Jeepney ride to Cubao then took the train-LRT2 to Recto.

I insisted to go to Quiapo first. Wheng said it's her first time there. I wanted to buy some anime series from my "suki" but we were too early, stores were still closed, so I ended up buying some stuff instead. We met my friend Ryan there, he came along with us to Tutuban.

So from Quiapo, we rode the jeep again to Tutuban. We walked a little to reach 168 mall. We shopped around. Wheng bought some neat long-sleeved shirts. I ended up buying Hello Kitty stuff. It's a really tiring adventure for girls to shop (I believe most girls would agree) so around 11am, we were already famished.

I dragged my two companions to the 3rd floor, towards 168's food court. Picking what to eat is one thing, having a tight budget is another. So we looked for a stall that would serve big plates, preferably good for 3 persons. I remembered that Thai food I ate before with my boyfriend and mom. So again, I dragged them towards that particular stall and the rest was history.

(Nah... I still need to tell you how satisfied we were)

We ordered one platter of Crab meat fried rice, one platter of Squid with Garlic and Pepper and another of their Pandan Chicken. I was hesitant to order the Pandan chicken. I thought it won't satisfy my taste buds. But hey, I was completely WRONG!

Per platter, it was a hundred bucks (or one hundred pesos each). For us it was fair enough since we wanted to try something new and not the usual fast food meals.

So the what's verdict? I gave it a super high 5! The Crab Meat Fried Rice can actually be eaten alone since it's tasty enough to satisfy your hungry tummies. The Squid with Garlic and Pepper is soft and tasty and the Pandan Chicken is like Chicken Lechon. All 3 meals were super yummy I just cant get enough of them! Especially the Pandan Chicken. My taste-o-meter went OOOHHH LALA!

We left our seats with wide smiles on our faces and we left our table with of course, empty plates.

Bon Apetit!

Quick Stop: Mongolian Style

For the past weeks, there have been many changes in my life that I felt like I need to catch myself. This is what I did in Sunday, I went out alone. I watched a movie, When in Rome. After watching the movie, of course I looked for a place to eat. I looked around the mall and found Mongolian Quick-stop. I ordered glazed chicken meal. This meal costs 100 pesos which includes: iced tea, soup and of course, the main dish, chicken glazed with rice and egg which is very affordable for me.

The soup is creamy with bits of chicken. Chicken glazed was really delicious because of its slightly sweet sauce and it has an egg, my favorite. The serving is more than enough for 1 person. I was full but there was still something left on my bowl. I ended up eating all the chicken and left some rice, hahaha!

I know it’s kind of weird but one of the things that I look for is their tissue supply on the table. Though you can’t see it in the picture there is tissue dispenser on every table. I really appreciate it when the management has more than enough tissue on each table. For me it means that they are really thinking about their clients’ welfare. Have you ever tried catching the attention of the waiter just to ask for tissue? Most of the time it’s really hard especially if there are so many people inside the place.

Oh well, that is my experience. I think I already caught up with myself so I’m happy as I end my day.

Happy eating everyone!

Wandering for good food

Been thinking where we should go next. Wheng and I only meet once every two weeks or on Saturdays (if we're lucky enough). So I asked her if she can eat somewhere without me, she better jot it down so we can post her share of the taste here. Hmmmmm... Wish I could do the same. Maybe I will. *wink*

First Stop: Bigby's Cafe and Restaurant

What's the best thing to do before or after watching a movie??? EATING!!! Hahaha!!!

Well, that's what I did with my friend Jacy. We went to Megamall last February 13th, we watched Percy Jackson and the lightning thief. I told her we should try eating in a new restaurant. So, we tried to find a place in Megamall Atrium and eureka, Bigby's Cafe and Restaurant is there. The attendant in the restaurant was so accommodating that we were convinced to go in (aside from the food that is).

The place was quite small maybe because it is around 2pm, still lunch time for some, like us. We ordered Chix Ahoy. The chicken was really, really delicious and affordable. We shelled out around P500 in total, quite affordable, it's good for two and I can say it is a complete meal because it has string beans, potatoes and carrots. The chicken pieces are big and as I said really, really delicious. We were quite full after eating the chicken with rice but that didn’t stop us from eating dessert. Yum, yum! The dessert looks too nice to eat but we ate anyway but not after taking pictures.

All in all it was a really good experience. I told myself that I’m gonna bring my parents there, the next time we go to Megamall.

Happy eating everyone!
